What Is Included in a Bridal Makeup Package (And What Quietly Isn't)
A bridal makeup package usually includes a consultation, one trial, skin prep, wedding-day makeup, hair, false lashes and a touch-up kit. Draping, extra family faces, travel and stay, very early start times and additional functions are almost always charged separately. Ask for one itemised quote before you pay any advance.
The word "package" is doing a lot of work in this industry. Two artists can quote you the same number for wildly different things, and you only find out on the morning of your wedding when someone says "draping is extra, ma'am."
So here is the honest line-by-line. Not what I wish the industry did — what it actually does.
What a proper bridal makeup package includes
If someone is quoting you a genuine bridal package, these should be inside the number, not bolted on later:
- A consultation. A real conversation about your outfits, jewellery, venue lighting, function timings and your skin. Over a call or in person. This is where the look actually gets decided.
- Skin prep. Cleanse, hydrate, prime, protect. I give this about twenty minutes before a single drop of base goes on, because everything above it either sits well or doesn't depending on what happens here.
- The wedding-day makeup application itself. Base, correction, eyes, brows, lips, contour, setting.
- False lashes. Standard strip or cluster lashes are normally included. Premium individual lash extensions may not be.
- Hairstyling. Often included, often not. See below — this is the single most common gap between what a bride assumed and what she paid for.
- A touch-up kit, or the artist staying back. One of the two. Ask which.
- A trial — bundled with most signature artists, priced separately by many freelancers.
What is usually extra — and why that isn't a scam
Brides read this list and assume they're being nickel-and-dimed. Mostly they aren't. These items genuinely cost the artist more time, more product or more of the day, so they get priced separately. The problem is not that they exist — the problem is when nobody tells you they exist.
- Saree and dupatta draping. A properly pinned, photograph-proof drape takes real time. Commonly a separate line.
- Family and bridesmaid makeup. Priced per face, every single time. Read how family makeup charges usually work before you commit to a headcount.
- Additional functions. Haldi, mehndi, sangeet and reception are separate looks with separate pricing. Bundles exist and are usually better value.
- Travel, stay and outstation work. If the artist is coming to your venue city, flights or fuel, a hotel night and a lost booking day are real costs.
- Very early start times. A 4 a.m. muhurat means an artist who was up at 2 a.m. Some charge for it. That's fair.
- Extended stay-back hours. If you want someone with you until the vidaai, that is a full working day being blocked.
- Airbrush as an upgrade. Some artists price traditional and airbrush application differently. If you're weighing that up, my guide to airbrush versus HD makeup explains what actually changes.
Is the trial included in the bridal package?
Sometimes. Signature and studio artists usually fold one trial into the bridal price, because they want the wedding-day look decided in advance rather than invented at 5 a.m. Freelancers more often charge for it — roughly ₹5,000 to ₹7,000 in this market — and some adjust that amount against your final bill if you book them.
All three models are defensible. What isn't defensible is discovering the trial is chargeable after you've already paid an advance. Ask the question in a text message so the answer is in writing. And if you're not sure a trial is worth it, read what a bridal trial should actually cover— a trial that's just a nice photo is a waste of both our time.
Who is actually doing your hair?
This is where most packages get vague. "Hair and makeup included" can mean four different things: the same artist does both, a hairstylist on their team does hair, a subcontracted stylist you've never met does hair, or hair means a blow-dry and you're on your own for the bun.
Ask directly. Who does the hair, are they included in this price, will I meet them at the trial, and does hair include setting the dupatta. That last one matters more than brides expect — a dupatta that has to be re-pinned every twenty minutes will ruin your evening.
Touch-ups: kit, stay-back, or nothing
North Indian weddings run long. Between the jaimala, the pheras, the photos and the crying, your face has a twelve-hour shift ahead of it. There are three ways artists handle that.
- A custom touch-up kit. Your exact lip shade, blotting paper, a setting product, a few pins. You or your sister handles it. This is what I do — it's cheaper for you than paying someone to stand around, and it works.
- The artist stays back. Someone is physically present for the whole event. Genuinely useful for very long days or complicated outfit changes. Costs meaningfully more, because it consumes the artist's entire day.
- Nothing at all. The artist finishes and leaves. Perfectly normal at the budget end. Just know it in advance so you can pack your own kit.
Nine questions that turn a vague package into a real quote
Copy these into WhatsApp. Send them as one message. An artist who answers all nine clearly is an artist who will show up on time.
- Which functions does this price cover?
- Is a trial included, and if not, what does it cost?
- Is hairstyling included, and who is doing it?
- Is saree or dupatta draping included?
- What do you charge per additional face for family?
- Are travel and stay included for my venue?
- What time do you arrive, and how long will you be with me?
- Do I get a touch-up kit, or do you stay back?
- What is the advance, and what happens if the date shifts?
There's a longer version of this in my list of questions to ask a bridal makeup artist, but those nine cover almost every unpleasant surprise I've heard about.
What does a full package actually cost?
Broadly, in 2026: a bridal package in Delhi NCR and Gurgaon runs ₹25,000 to ₹45,000 with a professional, and ₹45,000 to ₹1.5 lakh with established studios. In the Chandigarh tricity, ₹20,000 to ₹35,000 is professional territory, with signature work at ₹35,000 to ₹60,000 and above. Smaller cities like Karnal sit lower — ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 for an experienced artist.
Those are ranges, not price lists. They move with season, inclusions and how many functions you're booking. Get an itemised quote. For city-level detail, I've written a full Delhi NCR bridal makeup cost guide, and a function-by-function price breakdownif you're budgeting across a whole wedding week.
How I put my own package together
Mine starts at ₹25,000 and covers the consultation, the trial, wedding-day application and a custom touch-up kit. I take only two or three weddings a month, which means I'm not running between brides — you get an unrushed morning, and about twenty minutes of that goes to skin prep before anything else happens. I work with MAC, Charlotte Tilbury, Bobbi Brown and Huda Beauty because those are the products I've tested for twelve-plus hours in North Indian heat and cold.
Everything else — extra functions, family faces, travel, draping — gets written out as its own line before you pay anything. You can see the full scope of what I offer on my services page, and if you want a real number for your dates, message me on WhatsAppand I'll send an itemised breakdown, not a range.
One line worth confirming in writing is travel. Within my own packages, travel is included across Delhi NCR, Faridabad, the Chandigarh tricity, and the Karnal–Kurukshetra belt — only genuine out-of-region and destination weddings carry a separate travel cost, quoted up front.
Frequently asked questions
What is included in a bridal makeup package?
A standard bridal package includes a consultation, one trial, skin prep, wedding-day makeup application, hairstyling, false lashes, and either a touch-up kit or on-site touch-ups. Draping, extra family members, travel and stay, very early start times and additional functions are usually priced separately. Ask for one itemised quote listing every line before you pay an advance.
Is a trial included in the bridal makeup price?
With signature and studio artists a trial is usually bundled in. With freelancers it is often separate, roughly ₹5,000 to ₹7,000, and sometimes adjusted against the final bill if you book. Neither approach is wrong. What matters is that your quote says in writing which one applies to you.
Is hair included in bridal makeup, or charged separately?
It depends on the artist. Many packages include hairstyling by the same artist or by a stylist on their team. Others quote makeup only and add hair as a line item. Ask specifically who is doing your hair, whether they are inside the price, and whether dupatta or saree draping is part of it.
Does bridal makeup include makeup for the mother and sisters?
No. Family makeup is billed per face on top of the bridal package, almost without exception. Rates vary by city and artist. Count the actual number of people needing makeup on each function day and get that quoted upfront — four or five extra faces can add meaningfully to your total.
What should I get in writing before paying the advance?
The date, the venue, the start and finish time, which functions are covered, who is doing the makeup, whether hair and draping are included, the per-face rate for family, travel and stay charges, the total, the advance paid, and the cancellation and date-change terms. One message with all of it is enough.
