Destination Wedding Makeup: Goa Edition

By Tanya Goyal·February 25, 2024·5 min read

A beach wedding in Goa sounds like a dream. The ocean breeze, the sunset vows, the golden hour photos. But from a makeup perspective, it is one of the most challenging environments to work in. High humidity, intense heat, and salt air are notorious for melting foundation and ruining hairstyles.

Beating the Coastal Climate

I have traveled extensively for destination weddings, and conquering the Goan climate requires a specific set of tools and engineered techniques. Here is my approach to ensuring brides look stunning despite the humidity.

Matte Primers and Anti-Shine Prep

Even if you want a "dewy" bridal look, you must start with a matte, oil-absorbing primer. In Goa, your skin will naturally produce its own dewiness within an hour. If we start too radiant, you will look greasy in photos. I rely on sweat-resistant primers to grip the foundation layers tightly.

Long-Wear HD for Coastal Humidity

For humid destination weddings, a long-wear HD base is exceptionally advantageous. Applied in thin, breathable layers and set thoroughly, it holds up beautifully against sweat and salt air without ever looking heavy on camera. It's my go-to for enduring a sunset ceremony on the beach without slipping.

Waterproof Everything

From the mascara to the eyeliner and even the setting spray—waterproof formulas are critical. The salty air and potential for happy tears require robust formulas that maintain their structural integrity at all costs.
